Two stories lately have me concerned about standards for those standing for community leadership positions in the upcoming Local Government election. Elsewhere in New Zealand we have a male Councillor convicted of sexual assault on a woman staff member who is seeking re-election and a convicted child sex offender standing for Mayor. This is totally unacceptable. The rules need to change.
We need moral and ethical leadership.
If elected I will ensure that the Code of Conduct drives transparency, moral and ethical leadership and respectful behaviour. Any alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct will be heard by an impartial mediator and reported through the appropriate committee.. Workplaces should be safe spaces. We can do better.
